(please be patient - some of this files are large and may take a minute to load depending on your connection speed)
Quo Vadis, comp/arr Jesse Milliner - below are some clips from a great piece written by a brilliant composer in Germany, Jesse Milliner. I flew back down to Miami to record this with the great CJB and and special guest John Hollenbeck on drums. This is a long, multi-movement piece for big band, so I've shortened the clips and included some fades to make the files smaller.
Quo Vadis, I
Quo Vadis, II
Quo Vadis, III
Mirage - off Sammy Figueroa's In Walked Sammy, this is a clip from a tune written by a great trumpet player named John Lovell.
Night and Day - beautiful arrangement by Alan Baylock from his album Two Seconds to Midnight, with the reharmoniztion using Coltrane changes by Jerry Bergonzi.
Ponta de Areia - this is a clip (with fades) of a track I did with a great Brazilian singer from Miami. This was at the end of the session, and I wasn't going to play on it at first, but it turned out great.
Reza - another clip from the same album (above). I had a lot of fun trying to come up with some simple melodies over nice grooves.
I Can't Get Started - first 2 A's from a faculty recital I did at SIUC; just solo tenor, with nowhere to hide!
Sanctuary - this is a clip from a live gig with the New Arts Jazztet in Illinois. Phil Brown, a wonderful bassist, composed this tune, and we played it often with the band.
Out of this World - this is a clip from a live Airmen of Note gig back sometime around 2000 when I was playing tenor with the band. The sound quality is horrible (mini-disc on my stand), but I love the vibe on this great chart arranged by Jeff Martin, an incredible trombonist and composer in the Note.
Sunk in Dars - this is an original that has seen a variety of configurations and settings. This clip is from a 2 tenor, bass, drums quartet I did with the great saxophonist Peter Sommer.
And Sammy Walked In - I arranged this tune for the Sammy Figueroa band in Miami, and we recorded it as the title track on an album of his that was nominated for a Grammy (just a short clip with fades).
Autumn Leaves - I heard Michael Brecker do this arrangement live in Maryland, and immediately transcribed the arrangment for my own use. This clip is from one of my Doctoral Recitals at the University of Miami.
Underground - an original of mine that I arranged for the Airmen of Note as a feature for the incomparable Rich Sigler on flugel horn. This clip is from a recent tour, and is a ROUGH mix from a live gig.
Borrowed Time - a great original by Jeff Antoniuk written while he was at the University of North Texas, this features me on soprano and Rich Sigler on flugel. This is another rough mix from a live Note gig on tour.
Convergence - a brand new original by Jeff Martin, this features me on alto and the composer of trombone - yet another rough mix from a live Airmen of Note gig on tour.
